Debbie Johnson, a prominent figure from the reality show “90 Day Fiancé,” is making headlines again due to her
new relationship with boyfriend Tony, as well as the concerning medical situation of her son, Colt Johnson. Debbie
first gained notoriety on Season 6 of the show when her son Colt invited his Brazilian partner, Lissa, to the U.S. for
marriage. Lissa’s portrayal often came across as manipulative, as it appeared she was primarily interested in obtaining a green card. However, Debbie was also scrutinized for her gaslighting behavior and for overprotectively raising Colt in a way that left him dependent on her.
The dynamic between Colt and Debbie was tumultuous, particularly when Colt began dating Jess Caroline and later Vanessa Guerra, with whom Debbie had a falling out. Their co-dependent relationship allowed Debbie to make decisions on Colt’s behalf, which ultimately led to significant issues in Colt’s life. After a series of confrontations, Colt finally asserted his independence, establishing boundaries that Debbie struggled to accept.
Currently, Debbie is residing in Canada with Tony, and she recently celebrated her first Halloween with him. In an Instagram video, she shared her excitement about the festive decorations and her preparation of over 100 bags of candy for local children. Nonetheless, Debbie’s joyful moments with Tony seem to overshadow her concern for Colt, who is facing a serious medical emergency that may result in amputation due to two back-to-back injuries on the same leg.
Despite Colt’s dire situation, which has left him in risk of losing the ability to walk, Debbie has not publicly addressed his health issues or asked fans for prayers. Instead, her focus remains on creating a fairy tale experience in Canada, raising questions about the authenticity of her overprotective mother persona from “90 Day Fiancé.” Just a year ago, Debbie expressed distress about her struggles to find an immigration lawyer after being denied entry at the border while trying to join Tony in Canada.
Colt’s issues began after he sustained a severe leg injury while filming “90 Day: The Last Resort” in December 2022. During this time, Vanessa, despite their turbulent relationship, took on the role of caregiver, supporting Colt through multiple surgeries and a lengthy recovery. After Vanessa’s departure, Colt attempted to rebound by filming “90 Day House” in Mexico, where he met Courtney Verdin, who also took on a caretaker role. Throughout these experiences, it became evident that the friction between Colt and Debbie was largely due to her influence on his romantic relationships.
While Colt and Debbie appeared to reconcile during a previous visit of Colt to Canada in September, something seems to have shifted in their relationship. Now, it appears as though Debbie is distancing herself from her son, failing to publicly support him in light of his traumatic injuries. It is perplexing to see the change in Debbie, who previously was overly involved in Colt’s life, especially given the severity of his current health crisis. Colt is actively considering a move to Brazil amid escalating financial troubles and issues with the IRS, which adds another layer to his already complex situation with his mother.
