I think Brandon and Mary Denuno from “90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way” don’t deserve the criticism they’ve received
from fans since their season premiered. There are far worse couples in the franchise than these young individuals.
Brandon and Mary’s storyline attracted attention due to their video calls, which revealed severe trust issues that
required them to be on call with each other 24/7, even during sleep or bathroom breaks. While Mary occasionally disconnected the Wi-Fi to spend time with her male friends, she became upset when she saw Brandon interacting with other women. Thankfully, these issues appear to have been resolved once they began living together, but they now find themselves arguing about finances, with Brandon even calling Mary a scammer during disputes. Despite these challenges, Brandon and Mary remain together today, away from the limelight and uninterested in capitalizing on their early fame from the reality TV show.
When I first watched Brandon on “90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way” Season 5, he was preparing to move to the Philippines, leaving everything behind in the U.S. My heart broke for him as he recounted his difficult past, which included his parents’ separation when he was just three or four years old and his mother’s loss of custody when he turned 15. Forced to live with his father for three years, Brandon faced a demanding and hostile environment. Eventually, he left his father’s house and struggled to find a place to stay, even living in his truck for two months before his godparents took him in. The then 21-year-old was grappling with a bad breakup and feeling like a burden, as he lived in an RV to avoid intruding on his godparents’ space. This yearning for stability and an escape led him to Mary, explaining why he has remained living with her.
Unlike other “The Other Way” stars who often return to the U.S. when things become too difficult abroad, Brandon was already planning his future in the Philippines at such a young age. He longed for a stable home, a roof he could call his own, and a family that wouldn’t abandon him. I felt proud of him when he shared that he had begun working extra jobs to send money to Mary, allowing her to build a house and start a business. Although Brandon and Mary have made mistakes and faced criticism for having a baby while struggling financially, they seem determined to provide their child with the secure future and love they never received from their own parents.
Both Brandon and Mary come from dysfunctional families and appear to be making a genuine effort to be better parents to their child than their own parents were. The most significant controversy in their journey came when Mary announced she had cancer, which Brandon had publicly claimed was colon cancer. Mary revealed that she had experienced blood in her feces for years, leading to a doctor’s recommendation for her colon to be removed. The couple sought help through a GoFundMe, but many fans expressed skepticism about their claims, including myself. Mary later clarified that she did not have cancer, admitting she had mistakenly posted about her health due to anxiety, and apologized for the misunderstanding.
Brandon and Mary are still young and learning as they navigate life together, growing from their past mistakes. Rumors suggest they were fired for violating their NDA, especially after Mary held TikTok lives with a baby in the background, revealing she had a child with Brandon. This exposure was further complicated by Brandon’s mother’s social media posts, including wedding pictures and news of the grandchild, which spoiled the couple’s storyline. Despite these revelations, it’s clear that these disclosures were not intentional on Brandon and Mary’s part. Unlike other couples who thrive on crafting drama for social media, Brandon and Mary seem less inclined to entertain fans with controversies or cryptic updates. In fact, their storyline lacked many memorable moments, making it difficult for viewers to feel as invested in their journey.
