It’s been nearly a year since General Hospital bid farewell to Spencer in January 2024. His exit was nail-biting and
dramatic, featuring a cliffhanger where Esme pulled him into the icy waters of the S River as she faced her potential
demise. At the time, the reason for Spencer’s departure was to allow actor Nicholas Alexander Chavez some time off.
However, it now seems he may not return anytime soon.
Chavez took a break from the ABC soap to film the second season of “Monsters: The Lyle and Eric Menendez Story,” a crime anthology series produced by Ryan Murphy for Netflix. In this series, Nicholas scored a lead role as Lyle Menendez, leading fans to believe he would be back on General Hospital once filming wrapped. However, before production even concluded, Murphy offered Chavez another significant role in the FX horror series “Grotesque,” which premiered on September 25th. Chavez’s rising star was quickly recognized in Hollywood, raising questions about whether he would return to Port Charles at all, especially if his success continues to lead to more opportunities.
Rumors have been swirling regarding Chavez’s potential return, and while he hasn’t definitively ruled it out, he remains noncommittal. In a recent interview with TV Line, he acknowledged the unpredictable nature of Port Charles, stating, “We’ll just have to see what happens.” He expressed understanding concerning the show’s needs, emphasizing that if GH decides to go in a different direction for Spencer, he would fully support that decision. Ultimately, it appears that his return depends heavily on timing.
Regardless of his future with General Hospital, one thing is certain: fans have not seen the last of this Cassadine heir. A bigger question looms over whether GH should wait for Chavez’s availability or consider recasting the role to advance the storyline. Meanwhile, there is growing excitement surrounding Trina and Robinson’s potential love story during Spencer’s absence.
