Tammy Slaton, star of “1,000-Lb Sisters,” has made remarkable strides in her weight loss journey over the years.
When the beloved unscripted show premiered in 2020, Tammy weighed over 600 pounds and reached her heaviest
weight of 725 pounds. Throughout her life, she struggled with her weight and often appeared uninterested in making
the necessary changes to lose it. However, a serious health crisis that resulted in her hospitalization became a turning point. After years of ignoring doctors’ orders, Tammy experienced a wake-up call and decided to take action to save her own life.
These days, Tammy looks like a completely different person. A recently unearthed old photo highlights her dramatic transformation. Following a health scare that led to a week-long medically induced coma, Tammy chose to approach her weight loss seriously. She consulted with bariatric surgeon Dr. Eric Smith in July 2022 and underwent gastric sleeve bypass surgery. In a procedure known as the duodenal switch, the surgeon narrowed both her stomach and small intestine, significantly restricting the amount of food she could consume. As a result, the now 38-year-old Tammy has lost an incredible 500 pounds.
Amanda Halterman, Tammy’s sister and fellow cast member of “1,000-Lb Sisters,” shared an old throwback photo of Tammy that illustrates her transformation. The Instagram post, taken in 2017, shows Tammy lying in a hospital bed with Amanda by her side. Amanda captioned the photo, “Flashback to Feb 2017,” noting Tammy’s struggle with a pulmonary embolism and expressing gratitude for their journey together. Tammy, who has historically been the heaviest sibling, looks vastly different today compared to her past self in that hospital photo.
After addressing her food addiction and having bariatric surgery, Tammy’s weight has dropped from 725 pounds to 225 pounds. Despite her remarkable progress, she hopes to undergo skin removal surgery to address the excess skin left after her weight loss. However, her doctor has advised her to lose more weight before considering the procedure. Fans of “1,000-Lb Sisters” can catch up on all the seasons, from 1 to 6, streaming on Discovery+.
