Tiger Leely Taylor, a star from “90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days,” recently expressed her frustration with fellow
cast member Vanya Gerbich’s comments suggesting that she is experiencing Stockholm syndrome in her marriage to
Adnan Abdal Fada. At 41 years old, Tiger Leely is married to the 23-year-old Adnan, who hails from Jordan. Upon
their first meeting in person, Adnan, a Muslim man, proposed marriage so they could spend time together in his country while respecting his cultural traditions. Tiger Leely readily agreed and began following the rules that Adnan set for her as his wife.
Although Tiger Leely initially protested some of the expectations placed upon her, she eventually adapted to what Adnan wanted. There has been speculation about whether she has converted to Islam, but she has not publicly confirmed this. Nevertheless, her recent Instagram photos suggest she may be embracing more conservative attire, possibly indicating a shift in her lifestyle. Critics, however, argue that her choice of clothing could be a style statement rather than compulsion from Adnan.
In a dynamic that has generated discussion, Tiger Leely appears to accept the control that Adnan exerts over her, despite their significant age difference. She has maintained an awareness of how their relationship is portrayed on camera, particularly in contrast to Adnan, whom she deemed the more immature partner. Vanya Gerbich pointed out to Tiger Leely that she had previously been in a controlling marriage, and yet chose to marry Adnan quickly because of his request.
During one encounter, as Vanya attempted to discuss these dynamics, Adnan interrupted them, possibly to prevent any negative comments about him from being made. He asserted that Tiger Leely would never wear revealing clothing like Vanya does, claiming she is his “princess” and dresses only for him. Adnan also indicated that he would rather avoid prolonged conversation with women when Tiger Leely is not present, further enforcing his boundaries within their relationship.
Vanya raised concerns about how Adnan’s behavior made her feel unwelcome in conversations, implying that there was a sense of gender-based exclusion. Tiger Leely defended her marriage, stating that Adnan doesn’t converse with women alone when she is absent, and acknowledged her own choice to excuse herself from conversations if Adnan needed to step away.
In response to the ongoing speculation, Tiger Leely addressed Vanya’s assertion about Stockholm syndrome after filming wrapped up. She clarified, “I’m not really sure why everyone thinks that I can’t speak my mind if Adnan is with me. I don’t have Stockholm syndrome like some people may think.” Tiger Leely explained that their relationship operates with her as the quieter partner, while Adnan is more extroverted.
Stockholm syndrome is defined as a psychological phenomenon where a victim of abuse or captivity forms an emotional bond with their abuser or captor, a situation deemed inappropriate to apply to Tiger Leely’s relationship. Despite her assertion that she is not being abused, the drastic changes she has made for Adnan have left some critics believing she is under his influence and control.
